People make objects for many reasons.
When people make something and give it away, or leave it as a memorial, that act has special meaning to them. Many objects unearthed or discovered near the Ohio Earthworks are made of material not from the area. In the case of the mounds, the distance that people traveled to leave things is staggering, and worthy of Awe.
