Sculptor Korczak Ziolkowski and Lakota Chief Henry Standing Bear officially started sculpting the Crazy Horse Memorial on June 3, 1948. The creation of this sculpture keeps continuing. This sculpture and the Memorial’s mission honors the culture, tradition and living heritage of North American Indians.
